High School Juniors and Seniors May Start NOW, Working on Their College Careers!!!

H.E.M. High School and Western Wyoming Community College Outreach are working together to provide college credit classes to exceptional High School Juniors and Seniors.

How does it work? Planned courses are taught by college-approved high school teachers during the regular school day. Upon completion, you may receive both high school and college credit for the classes. Note: Class requirements will be the same as those required of on-campus students.

Can any high school student take these courses? No. Class enrollment is restricted to Juniors and Seniors who have at least a 3.25 grade point average. In addition, you must register for college credit by completing specific forms by the appropriate dates.

How much does this cost the student? Nothing! WWCC covers the cost of the class through the state tax dollars and Carbon County School District #2 purchases all the books.

Will the credits be accepted at an institution other than Western? Credits will transfer to most institutions. Whether or not the credits will be applicable to the student's degree at another institution, however, is dependent on which degree is chosen. For specifics on this issue, you are responsible for contacting the college you are planning to attend.

It sounds too good to be true. What's the disadvantages? There's only one true problem: Whatever grade a student receives in these courses become part of his/her permanent college transcripts, and can only be removed by retaking the exact course.

After all of the cautions - is this program worth while? Yes it is. You will save time by taking credits with you as you enter college as a freshman.
